Sarah and Max 1992

When we finally got married, on our 10th anniversary of being together and after we already had a house, two kids and a Volvo, we'd had a lot of time to think about what we might do to celebrate our marriage. Sarah and Max Wedding Vows
July 18, 1992

I recognize you as my soulmate
and choose you to be my wife/husband.
I choose to live with you in invention and discovery
in every moment of our lives together.
I pledge to share my life with you openly and honestly
And to trust you in commitment to our common path.
I promise to respect you
as a complete and self-determined individual
Through all the changes of our lives.

may you grow in wisdom.
Out of your commitment to each other,
let there grow in you a commitment to all human beings.
Out of your love for each other,
let there grow love to share with all the world.

The ritual is repeated with Max’s family, asking:
Do you, [name of family member], support this union and accept Sarah as your daughter/sister?
To which each family member answer “I do.”

Then the Officiant takes the chalice and holding it up to the assembled guests, asks “Do you support this union and accept Max and Sarah as united?” to which the assembly replies “We do!
