Kim and Dave 2009

Kim and Dave found Reverend Max through Weddings@BurningMan. Both had been married before and now found in each other the love they had always hoped to have before. Their experiences together at Burning Man the year before led them to want to be married in the Temple at Burning Man this year, without any other family or friends present. Sarah and our campmate Mr. Wizard volunteered to be their witnesses, and of course visitors to the temple at the time of their wedding became their audience, giving them a rousing round of applause and many hugs and well wishes. Their ceremony is an adaptation of ceremonies we have written before and, as always seems to happen, feels so uniquely right for Kim and Dave.

Kim and Dave Wedding, Sept 2009

Kim and Dave Wedding Ceremony
September 2, 2009

Welcome...
Kim and Dave, we are gathered here today to celebrate your marriage, a spiritual union that embodies love’s most profound possibilities.
After spending your lives with others for so many uninspired and turbulent years, you now have found each other to discover the rest of your lives with, to bring peacefulness, laughter, and true love into the home, and family, you now share.

Sarah reads poem: “I love you not only for what you are…”

Dave and Kim, I invite you to be truly present in the Here and Now.
Be present in this moment with gratitude for all the many blessings in your lives, and for all the varied paths that have lead you to this place.
Be present in this moment in the illumination and transforming power of love.
Be Here Now as you declare your commitment to each other, joining your hearts in a circle of love and sanctuary in which you can truly be alive.

Invocation
Divine Spirit, in whose presence we gather with Gratitude, we invite You to join us in this ceremony binding the lives and destinies of Dave and Kim. As they speak and we hear the words that will forever join them, allow the intention they declare here today to stand true in time and run deep as the singing river through the landscape of their lives.
In this sacred and joyful moment we call upon The Divine Light within Kim and Dave
- that illuminates our hearts and gives life to each cell of our being,
- that always knows what is truly for our highest good,
- that gives and asks the best of us.

For them we ask every Blessing of this moment;
- great happiness on the path before them;
- kindness and compassion as they walk upon it together;
- grace and peace through each step of their journey;
- and beloved family and friends to support them.

Expression of intent
Kim and Dave, you have come here today to declare your commitment to each other, to stand before God, the Universe and Everything and say “this is the One.”
Do you Kim choose Dave to be your honored and cherished husband,
- do you promise to love and hold him always?
- to stand beside him in good times and in bad?
- to nourish him with your gentleness and uphold him with your strength?
- to grow with him through all the changes of your journey together?
- to experience gratitude each day for the love you share, NOW and from this day forward?
Kim replies “I do.”

Vows
Now is the moment for you to say out loud the words your hearts are already singing, your vows to each other:

Dave, repeat after me:
- Kim, I recognize you as my soul mate.
- I love you with my entire being.
- You are my lover, my partner and my best friend forever.
- I choose to live with you in friendship, love, and respect,
- Exploring and growing with you as our lives unfold.
- I pledge to share my life with you openly and honestly
- And to trust you in commitment to our common path,
- Through all the changes of our lives.

Kim, repeat after me:
- Dave, I recognize you as my soul mate
- I love you with my entire being.
- You are my lover, my partner and my best friend forever.
- I choose to live with you in friendship, love, and respect,
- Exploring and growing with you as our lives unfold.
- I pledge to share my life with you openly and honestly
- And to trust you in commitment to our common path,
- Through all the changes of our lives.

Blessing of the Rings
Do you have rings for each other?

Let the seamless circle of these rings become the symbol of your endless love. Your wedding rings are special because they say that even in your uniqueness you have chosen to be bonded, to allow the presence of another human being to enhance who you are.

Kim, repeat after me:
- I give you this ring to wear with Love and Joy
- As a sign of my commitment to our life together
- As a symbol of my endless love

Dave, repeat after me:
- I give you this ring to wear with Love and Joy
- As a sign of my commitment to our life together
- As a symbol of my endless love

Chalice
Life is like wine, a process of creation through the forces of nature that, over time, reveals a rich melody of experience. This Loving Cup contains a wine in which you will taste sweetness, symbolic of delight, hope, joy, and peace.
In this same wine you will also taste some bitterness, symbolic of disappointment, loneliness, grief, despair, and life's trials and tribulations.
Together the sweet and the bitter represent Love's Journey and all of the great variety of experiences that are naturally a part of it.

Drink now, and share this wine as you have chosen to share your lives, from this day forward, with Love and Understanding.
Chug to the love you've shared in the past.
Chug to your love in the present, on this your wedding day.
And chug to your love in the future and forever more!

As you have shared the wine from this Loving Cup, so may you share your lives, exploring the mysteries of life’s great variety and drinking deeply of the love you find in one another's soul.

Benediction
May the Divine Spirit, that has given you the gift of growing awareness, healing and the miracle of the love you share, give you also peace of heart and strength of spirit so you may honor the vows you have made here today.
May the promises you have made inspire and instruct each one of us who celebrates with you, and everyone one who’s lives you touch.
May the Divine Light within you be the guardian of your well-being and fill your days together with gratitude and happiness.

Pronouncement of Marriage
And now, because you have chosen one another, honored each other with the precious gift of your rings, shared the Loving Cup and your pledges to love each other for all the days of your lives, by the power vested in me by the Divine and by the State of Nevada,
it gives me great pleasure to pronounce you husband and wife.

You may kiss…

Go now in Peace, and live in Joy.
